Recent Trail Work

On Sunday March 9th, GCMBC conducted a trail work session.  Work was done at several locations.  The Hunting Arrow trail was cleared of fallen trees.  Also, trees were cleared from the Triple Creek and Anthill trails.  In the Waterfall area, the reroute of Right Loop was started and will soon be completed.  Also, fallen trees were cleared from the Big Hole trail.

Thank you to the following for their time and work to help keep the trails in good riding condition:  Russ Brown, Tim Rowell, Amy Rowell, Cheryl Stevens, Brad Robinson, Carmen Talley, Will Rodes, Kelly Acker, Grace Gibson, Ian Davidson, Scott Snape.

Michelin Tubes

Michelin tubes were given to each person working at the March 9th trail work session.  Thank you to Michelin North America, Inc. for donating these tubes to assist GCMBC in promoting trail work sessions.

Boston Invasion
Former Clemson resident, student, trail worker, mountain bike riding mate to many, still current member (pending renewal), and GCMBC newsletter coordinator Eric Seaverson made a quick visit to Clemson recently.  At a small reception in honor of his visit he was presented with 1-1/2 Michelin mountain bike tires for his past and continued service to GCMBC.  Unfortunately for Eric, one of his tires had been borrowed for a month of winter training by Ian Davidson (i.e. the “1/2” tire).  One disadvantage of living in Boston is that you get what is left when you finally get to Clemson for a visit.
Next Trail Work Session/Picnic

On Sunday May 4th, GCMBC will conduct a trail work session from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Meet at  Doyle Bottom Road parking area for instruction.  Picnic to follow. For details or to assist in planning contact Amy Rowell at 654-4564 or Rowell@innova.net

Thanks to Brad Robinson and Annie Leonard for their work.

Also this trail was trimmed with a weed eater and blown of debris and a few trees across Triple Creek and Hunting Arrow were removed. Thanks to Tim Rowell and Ian Davidson for their work.

2002 Trail Maintenance

Volunteers from GCMBC contributed 240 hours of trail maintenance in the Issaqueena section of the Clemson University Experimental Forest during 2002.  This is by far the most hours that we have worked in a calendar year.  The increased hours is due to the many trees that have been falling across the trails because of the pine beetle disease that kills the pine trees.  Thank you volunteers for your efforts to maintain the trails for enjoyable use.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of GCMBC will be on Tuesday February 25th 2003 at 6:30 pm at the Central-Clemson Library on Hwy 93, Central.  Plan to attend as we review 2002, elect officers, and plan 2003 events.

Web Page Updates
GCMBC officer Tim Rowell is currently working on a map for the web page that will show the names of the trails in the Issaqueena area of the Clemson University Experimental Forest. This map should be of great interest to GCMBC members not only for general overall awareness of the trail system, but for easy identification of trails regarding maintenance issues.
