New Trail Approved

The Clemson Forest Administrators have approved the building of a new trail.  GCMBC proposed this trail as means for trail users to avoid riding on Issaqueena Dam Road, where numerous incidents of reckless drivers causing safety concerns for mountain bikers, horseback riders, runners, etc. have occurred.  The new trail, “The Dam Road Trail”, will begin near the corner of Issaqueena Dam Road and the horse parking area, and will parallel on the right side of the Issaqueena Dam Road as it goes towards the Dam.  A portion of this trail has already been built and was used in the recent mountain bike race.  Work on this trail will be done on Sunday May 19th at 3:00 p.m.  Please come out and assist.

Trail Work

Sunday May 19th at 3:00 p.m.  Come out and help build the new Dam Road Trail.  Meet at the Issaqueena parking area on Old Six Mile Road.  Loppers, 21 inch bow saws, and gloves will be the best tools for this project.  We will plan to work for 2 hours, with a picnic afterwards.

Trail Work Picnic

GCMBC will provide a picnic lunch following the trail work on Sunday May 19th.  We expect the picnic will begin around 5:15 p.m. at Wildcat Creek Area (middle of Issaqueena Forest on Issaqueena Lake Road).  In order to buy the proper amount of food, please RSVP Amy Wilcox by phone at 654-4564 by Saturday May 18th @ 2:00 p.m., or Tim Rowell by e-mail at trowell@clemson.edu by Thursday May 16th.

Recent Trail Maintenance

25 hours of volunteer work was performed on Sunday March 17th, as a portion of the Hunting Arrow Trail (Doyle Bottom Road area) was rerouted due to recent pine beetle logging operations.  Thank you to the following people for their time and efforts:  John Millon, David Goff, Brad Robinson, Mike Carls, Todd Thompson, Scott Snape, Ian Davidson.

Maintaining Trails

Volunteers from GCMBC have had a tough assignment keeping the trails cleared and maintained to date in 2002.  Pine beetle damage to the forest and high winds has resulted in many sections of trails being covered with fallen trees.  In some cases hard work has been put into clearing a trail only to have it covered with fallen trees a week later.  Thank you to the volunteers listed below for many hours of work already contributed this year.
